How It All Began
A Cleverly Disguised Author's Note
This little project began as the joke that wouldn't die in
Nora Bombay's LiveJournal regarding the Lone OB of Atlantis and her position in the city's trade
economy. After much haranging I slated the "Lone OB" project for one of my 14 Valentines projects (a
challenge I became involved in courtesy of Pru).
What was supposed to be a one-shot, short story, grew. Secondary characters began emerging from
the woodwork, real-world questions started to be asked:
- How do you handle childcare in a situation where everyone is essential personnel?
- If one is looking at a longer-term settlement, how can they avoid turning the Athosians
into second-class citizens?
- How do you develop a stable economy with the Wraith around?
There were other factors, there always are, but they don't need exploring at this juncture. Suffice it
to say that once the project got going, it suffered severe EUT (Expanding Universe Theory), and
possibly mated with my DS crossover ideas. In the end, it is my hope that much fun shall be had by all.
I am compelled to recognize the heroic efforts of my beta-readers in this endeavor:
Wychwood and
Shrewreader. This project would have died a
painful death several times were it not for them.
